Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how EconRevision("we", "us") collects, uses, stores, and shares personal data when you use EconRevision(the "Service"), an online A-Level Economics revision platform that includes AI-assisted exam-style marking and related learning features.
If you have questions about this policy or your data, contact us at support@econrevision.com.
Who this applies to
This policy applies to visitors and registered users of the Service. The Service is aimed at students and others studying economics; users are typically aged 16 or over. If you are under the age at which you can lawfully consent to online services in your country, you should use the Service only with permission from a parent, guardian, or school as applicable.
What data we collect
Depending on how you use the Service, we may process:
- Account and profile data — for example, email address, authentication identifiers, display name or username, and preferences associated with your account.
- Usage and service data — such as topics studied, progress indicators, revision activity, analytics relating to how you use features (for example, exam practice, flashcards, dashboards), and technical data like IP address, device/browser type, and timestamps, where needed to operate and secure the Service.
- Content you submit — including exam-style answers, text you type into the Service, and optional uploads you choose to provide (for example, images where the feature allows it), together with AI-generated marking feedback and scores produced for you.
- Billing-related data — if you subscribe or pay, payment processing is handled by our payment provider; we receive limited billing and subscription status information as needed to provide paid features.
How we use your data
We use personal data to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service (including AI-assisted marking and feedback).
- Create and manage your account and profile.
- Operate gamification and progress features (for example, XP, leaderboards) where you use them.
- Process subscriptions and payments, and communicate about billing where relevant.
- Keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot issues.
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
AI marking sends your submitted answers (and related context needed for marking) to our AI provider so we can return scores and feedback. This processing is part of delivering the Service you request.
Legal bases (UK / EEA)
Where UK GDPR / GDPR applies, we rely on one or more of the following:
- Contract — processing necessary to provide the Service you sign up for.
- Legitimate interests — for example, securing the Service, improving features, and understanding aggregate usage, balanced against your rights.
- Legal obligation — where we must process data to comply with the law.
- Consent — where we ask for consent (for example, non-essential cookies or optional communications), you may withdraw consent at any time.
Processors and third parties
We use trusted service providers to host the Service and provide key functions. They process data on our instructions and must protect it appropriately. Categories include:
- Hosting and database / authentication — we use Supabase for infrastructure including database and authentication. See their privacy notice: supabase.com/privacy.
- AI processing — exam answers and related inputs may be processed by Anthropic to generate marking and feedback. See: anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
- Payments — payments are processed by Stripe. Card details are handled by Stripe according to their terms and policies. See: stripe.com/privacy.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your exam answers to train third-party foundation models for their general products unless we tell you otherwise and, where required, obtain your consent.
International transfers
Our providers may process data in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area, the United States, or other countries. Where data is transferred outside the UK/EEA, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) where required by law.
Retention
We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above, including providing the Service, legal compliance, and resolving disputes. Retention periods depend on the type of data and your use of the Service; some information may be deleted or anonymised sooner than other records (for example, backups may persist for a limited period).
Security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or alteration. No online service can guarantee absolute security; you should use a strong password and protect your account credentials.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies as needed for the Service to function — for example, to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and protect against fraud. You can control cookies through your browser settings; blocking essential cookies may affect how the Service works.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, to object to certain processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. You may also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. In the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is available at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Where changes are material, we will provide additional notice if required by law.
